A data communication method in a mobile communication system is provided to maximize a communication service quality by using a variable DRX(Discontinuous Reception) method of a terminal. A data communication method in a mobile communication system includes the steps of: changing a discontinuous transmission which is varied based on transmission information to be transmitted to a terminal; transmitting the transmission information including the discontinuous reception control information which is varied based on the variable discontinuous transmission method discontinuously in a transmission section for the terminal; and determining whether data is transmitted to the terminal based on the transmission information. The transmission information includes at least one of information for indicating data or a control information state for the terminal, and information of an operation of a reception operation section or a reception non-operation section.
