PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK SYSTEM AND FAULT DETECTION AND RESTORATION METHOD FOR THE PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK

A PON(Passive Optical Network) system and a remote fault detection and restoration method thereof are provided to enable a remote OLT(Optical Line Terminal) to detect whether LDs(Laser Diodes) are abnormal and to turn on LD power of all ONTs(Optical Network Terminals), thereby more easily and quickly restoring LD abnormality of the ONTs. If optical signals incoming from ONTs are not normally received, an OLT transmits LD power-off signals to the ONTs connected with the OLT itself(311-313). The OLT transmits LD power-on signals by sequentially selecting the ONTs one by one only, and detects whether LDs of the ONTs are abnormal, depending on whether OAM(Operations, Administration and Maintenance) signals are received from the ONTs(314,315). The OLT transmits LD power-on signals to the ONTs after completing detection on LD abnormality(317-319).
