A bevelling mechanism for bevelling the pile fabric at the ends of roller coater refills, i.e. the short lengths of fabric covered tubing used on paint rollers comprises a motor-driven cutter 10 having one or more blades 10a which has, or each have, cutting edges along the two side edges thereof, the blade or blades passing through a V-shaped cavity formed by two backing plates 14 so that the cutting edges effect a shearing cut, the blade(s) and backing plates being carried by a frame 12. The mechanism is shown as operating on a length of roller coater material 22 which consists of a hollow core 24 of fibreboard which has been helically wound with a strip of pile fibric 26. The covered core is subsequently at the V-shaped grooves. The backing plates 14 are flexible and adjustable and have hardenable metal strips 14a at their leading edges, the shearing and relief angles preferably being ten degrees. The cutter 10 may be mounted for travel relative to a length of coater material which is held in a fixed position. In both cases, the mechanism is movable towards and away from the length of covered core material.</p> |
