METHOD FOR PREPARING CERIUM CARBONATE POWDER

A method for preparing cerium carbonate powder is provided to produce the cerium carbonate powder having orthorhombic and/or hexagonal crystal structure by varying only the kind of solvent even without using a hydrothermal synthesis method. A method for preparing cerium carbonate powder includes a step of mixing a cerium precursor solution with a carbonate precursor solution, and causing a precipitation reaction. At least one of solvents used in the cerium precursor solution and carbonate precursor solution is an organic solvent having at least two hydroxyl groups. The cerium carbonate is controlled to have an orthorhombic crystal structure, hexagonal crystal structure, or mixed crystal structure thereof by varying the number of carbons or hydroxyl groups contained in the molecular formula of the organic solvent.
