<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device using a linear light guide having a bent part to emit light having good luminance balance from its side surface. <P>SOLUTION: This light emitting device is equipped with a light source, and a linear light guide in which end faces serves as a light entrance plane for light from the light source to enter, a fist side surface serves as a light diffusing and reflecting surface, a second side surface opposite to the first side surface serves as a light emitting surface, and a bent part bent to the first side surface side is provided.
