PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence element that has improved luminous efficiency and color purity and emits a red color, and to provide a display using the organic electroluminescence element. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescence element 11 that clamps an organic layer 14, having a luminous layer 14c between a positive electrode 13 and a negative electrode 15, and emits a red color, the luminous layer 14c contains a pyrromethene complex as a red radiative guest material, and a polycyclic aromatic series hydrocarbon compound having 4-7 membered rings for a mother skeleton as a host material. A photosensitizing layer 14d containing a radiative guest material generated at a wavelength shorter than that of the luminous layer 14c is provided adjacent to the luminous layer 14c.
