PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of a belt in an early stage and the deterioration of image quality associated with the variation of tension acting on the belt by rocking either of two rollers arranged in a direction orthogonal to a shaft direction centering around the rotary shaft of the other roller so as to prevent meandering of the belt, thereby preventing the change of the axle-to-axle distance of the rollers. SOLUTION: The belt transfer device 10 is equipped with a sensor 2A, a rocking cam 6 and a motor 63. When deciding that the intermediate transfer belt 2 is meandered on the basis of a result obtained by detecting the end position of the intermediate transfer belt 2 by the sensor 2A, motors 63A and 63B are driven to rotate the rocking cam 6. By changing the diameter of an abutting part of the peripheral surface of the rotary shaft 41 on the peripheral surface of the rocking cam 6, a driven roller 4 is rocked centering around the rotary shaft 31 of a driving roller 3.
