PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasket having a function to simply enable temporary retention without using an expensive molded article and further to provide a component mounting method using the same. SOLUTION: There is provided the gasket 1 which is formed by cutting out its elastic sheet temporarily attached to an attaching surface of a component to be mounted. The gasket 1 has a contour matched to a periphery of the attaching surface and is arranged with its basal end coupled to the vicinity of a hole 3 provided corresponding to an attaching hole 12 of the component. In the gasket 1, a retentive piece 4, which is inserted into a locking hole 16 preliminarily provided in the vicinity of the attaching hole 12 of the component to be locked, is formed by being cut out. Further, in the gasket 1, the retentive piece 4 is raised to be inserted into an insertion guide portion 6 of a leading end of the locking hole 16 and then a locking portion 5 is allowed to be locked to an edge of the locking hole 16 to be temporarily joined thereto. Thereafter, the insertion guide portion 6 is cut off and then the locking portion 5 of the retentive piece 4 is fastened together with the component by a mounting bolt upon mounting the component.
