PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless LAN system which reduces manager's or user's workload required for updating an electronic certificate for client and ensures more robust security, and an electronic certificate updating method thereof. SOLUTION: A wireless LAN terminal 14 includes a wireless LAN card 141, a certificate storage 142 storing an electronic certificate, application software 143, certificate installation software 144, and a control part 145. An update time of the electronic certificate is preliminarily set on the basis of the valid period of the electronic certificate, and it is determined whether the update of the electronic certificate is required or not after the terminal is authenticated by an authentication server 12 by using the electronic certificate when accessing a network, and issue of the electronic certificate having a new valid period is requested to a certification station 13 to update the electronic certificate when it is determined that the update is required.
