PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optionally select a combination providing the same initial beam position. SOLUTION: This image display device has a rear plate having electron sources, a face plate having phosphors, and a spacer supporting atmospheric pressure. The image display device has a high-resistance film on a surface of the spacer, and, when a beam group from the electron source nearest to the spacer impinges on the corresponding phosphor of the face plate, its initial beam position y satisfies the following relationship: y=a×x<SB>1</SB>+b×x<SB>2</SB>+c×x<SB>3</SB>+d×x<SB>4</SB>+e×x<SB>5</SB>+f, where y is the initial beam position; x<SB>1</SB>-x<SB>5</SB>are each a variation having a unit of length; (a) is a coefficient by the height of scanning wire abutting on the separator; (b) is a coefficient by an average groove depth on a spacer surface; (c) is an coefficient by the length of a face plate-side flat part of the spacer surface; (d) is a coefficient by the length of a rear plate-side flat part of the spacer surface; (e) is a coefficient by the difference between the face plate-side groove depth and the rear plate-side groove depth; and (f) is a constant defined by the distance between the spacer surface and the electron source.
