PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wear and smearing of an electrode needle and efficiently destaticize a charged body. SOLUTION: The static eliminator has a destaticizing mode in which a high voltage is applied on an electrode needle 4 to generate ions and a stop mode to put the electrode needle 4 at a rest, and these can be established alternatively by selection of a user. The stop mode includes a stop period in which the high voltage is not basically applied on the electrode needle 4, and during this stop period, when a charged body approaches and self-discharge is generated, and if, accompanied with this, the absolute value of current flowing in a resistor R2 exceeds a first threshold, destaticizing operation to apply the high voltage on the electrode needle 4 to generate ions is started. Thereafter, after passing, for example, a prescribed time, the destaticizing operation is stopped, and it returns to a stop period. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
