摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain loss of light from a light source without degrading luminous efficiency, and to reduce thickness, in a surface light emission device and a display device. <P>SOLUTION: This surface light emission device is provided with: a light emitting element package 12 having a light emitting element 2, and emitting light from the light emitting element 2 from an emitting surface 12a; a first light guide plate 13 of an elongated shape having a light entering end surface 13a arranged oppositely to the emitting surface 12a, a reflecting side surface 13b nearly orthogonal to the light entering end surface 13a, and reflecting light entered from a light entering end surface 13a, and a light emitting side surface 13c facing the reflecting side surface 13b; and a flat second light guide plate 14 having a light entering side end surface 14a arranged oppositely to the light emitting side surface 13c. When it is assumed that thicknesses of the light emitting side surface 13c, the reflecting side surface 13b and the light entering end surface 13a are t1, t2 and t3, respectively, they are set to satisfy t1<t2&le;t3, and surfaces of the first light guide plate 13 other than the light entering end surface 13a and the light emitting side surface 13c are formed as reflecting surfaces. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
