<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out reproduction with a high S/N ratio irrespective of variance in hologram recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: The recording wavelengths of reference and signal lights generated by a laser light source 12 to output a plurality of test recording wavelengths λt at adjacent cycles λa are shifted to record interference patterns. Received light intensity indicating reproduction quality when each interference pattern is reproduced by the reference light of a target reproduction wavelength λp is obtained, and the received light intensity is obtained. Then, a test recording wavelength λt where the received light intensity is best is detected as an optimal recording wavelength.
