METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING DIMANGANESE TRIOXIDE HAVING SO4 CONCENTRATION OF <=0.6% BY MASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing dimanganese trioxide having a low sulfate radical content and suitable for use in the manufacture of a lithium-manganese multiple oxide which is a positive electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery by treating electrolytic manganese dioxide at a low cost.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing dimanganese trioxide comprises: subjecting massive electrolytic manganese dioxide obtained by electrolyzing a manganese sulfate solution to washing, drying and pulverization to obtain finely-powdered manganese dioxide; washing the finely-powdered manganese dioxide; immediately subjecting it to filtration and drying; and heat-treating the obtained manganese dioxide powder at 750-950°C to convert the manganese dioxide to dimanganese trioxide. This dimanganese trioxide has an SO4concentration of ≤0.6% by mass and is excellent as a starting material of a positive electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery.
