PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate which has no defect of unevenness and is superior in external appearance as well as in optical characteristics, and to provide an image display apparatus of high quality that uses the polarizing plate. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a protective layer (A) placed on at least one surface of the polarizer; wherein the protective layer (A) is a (meth)acrylic resin layer having a thickness of 1 to 50μm with surface hardness of B or higher, in terms of pencil hardness, and an adhesive layer having a thickness of 50 to 150 nm is placed between the polarizer and the protective layer (A).
