PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily alkali-soluble polyester resin that has good color tones and transparency and has no environmental load resulting from an antimony atom when a fiber is dissolved in an alkaline solution because of no elution of an antimony compound into the solution, and an easily alkali-soluble polyester fiber comprised of the same that gives a splittable conjugate fiber. SOLUTION: The easily alkali-soluble polyester resin is comprised of a polyalkylene terephthalate having copolymerized 0.5-5 mol%, based on the whole acid component of the polyester, of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid bearing a sulfonate salt group, where the easily alkali-soluble fiber comprises 5-20 mass% of a polyether compound or a polyether compound derivative having a number-average molecular weight of 1,000-15,000 and 30-200 ppm of a compound comprised of a solid solution comprising an aluminum compound and a magnesium compound and, covering the surface thereof, a titanium compound.
