PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a high-quality image free from an image defect such as color shift and banding by making the respective circumferential speeds of a photoreceptor and an intermediate transfer belt constant at a nip part (primary transfer part) between the photoreceptor and the intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having a plurality of photoreceptors and the intermediate transfer belt, primary transfer rollers are respectively brought into press-contact with the respective photoreceptors while interposing the intermediate transfer belt in between so as to achieve the stable submissive rotation of the drum, and rotary shafts on which the intermediate transfer belt is tensioned and laid are provided on at least either the upstream or downstream sides of the respective photoreceptors in an area on an opposite side to the primary transfer roller relative to an almost straight line linking the primary transfer positions of the respective photoreceptors.
