PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly carry a medium by easily detecting the occurrence of the situation of not properly stopping a motor. SOLUTION: (a) This medium carrying device has (b) a motor, (c) a driven body for transferring to a predetermined state by being driven by the motor and escaping from the predetermined state by a predetermined quantity of driving by the motor after transfer, (d) a sensor for outputting a signal of indicating that the driven body is put in the predetermined state in a section up to escaping from the predetermined state after the driven body transfers to the predetermined state, (e) a control part of the medium carrying device, and (f) a control part for performing control different from control to the motor except for a determination for carrying the medium before a predetermined period passes after starting the determination, by performing the determination of whether or not the driven body escapes from the predetermined state for the predetermined period after stopping the motor based on output of the sensor, by stopping the motor in the middle of the section.
