PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which is improved in panel numerical aperture while keeping a response characteristic to a voltage excellent in a VA mode using liquid crystal having negative permittivity anisotropy, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal panel includes a step of hermetically sealing a liquid crystal layer 30 containing liquid crystal molecules 30A having negative permittivity anisotropy and a monomer 30B having photocurability between a TFT substrate 10 and a CF substrate 20, a step of applying a magnetic field H to the liquid crystal layer 30 at a predetermined angle, a step of further applying a voltage after applying the magnetic field H, and a step of curing the monomer 30B by irradiation with ultraviolet light UV. Liquid crystal molecules 30A can be given a pretilt angle in the application direction of the magnetic field H without providing a slit to a substrate, an electrode, or a projection, so the panel numerical aperture and viewing angle characteristics can be improved while the voltage response characteristic is maintained.
