A heat expandable baffle comprising a rigid support plate (14) with a cross section shaped corresponding to, but smaller than the shape of the cross section of a cavity to be sealed, a carrier (10) for a heat expandable material (5) and a heat expandable material (5) mounted only to the outer periphery of the carrier has a composite structure.
