<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a putter head with a small quantity of backspin. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of parallel grooves 4 extending in the toe-heel direction is provided in a face 3 of the putter head 1. The width W of the groove 4 is 0.5-1.6 mm, the ratio W/S of W to the interval S between the grooves is 0.5-2.0, or preferably, 0.5-1.5. The depth H of the groove is 0.03-1.2 mm, and the cross-sectional shape of the groove 4 is rectangular or U-shaped. The groove 4 may be a vertical groove, or both horizontal and vertical grooves may be provided.
