PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image memory for effectively accessing a rectangle area of two-dimensional data, an image memory system, and a memory controller. SOLUTION: A memory device includes a memory cell array with a plurality of memory unit areas selected by an address, a plurality of input/output terminals, and an input/output unit installed between the memory cell array and the plurality of input/output terminals. Data for bits or bytes, which correspond to the plurality of input/output terminals, are stored in the memory unit area. Furthermore, the memory cell array and the input/output unit, in response to a first action code, access the bits or the bytes stored in a corresponding input address for a first memory unit area and a second memory unit area adjacent to the first memory unit based on the input address or information of combined bytes or bits, and associate some of a plurality of bytes or bits in the accessed first and the second memory unit areas to the plurality of the input/output terminals based on the information of the combined bytes or bits.
