PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with a simple transfer device 3 for forming a satisfactory quality image free from an image defect, in particular, a transfer device 3 for forming a satisfactory quality image even on rough paper or wrinkled paper. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor 1; a charging device 19 for charging the surface of the photoreceptor; a light emitting device 45 for forming a latent image by emitting a light beam to the charged photoreceptor surface; a developing device 21 for forming a toner image by attaching toner to a latent image formed on the photoreceptor surface; the transfer device 3 for transferring a toner image, formed on the photoreceptor surface, to a recording medium; and a fixing device 35 for fixing the toner image transferred to the recording medium. In the image forming apparatus, the transfer device 3 has a pressing part that presses the recording medium 14 against the photoreceptor 1.
