PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based adhesive composition excellent in initial bond strength and ordinary bond strength and further capable of being continuously used for a long time even when it is applied by means of an applicator, such as a roll coater, a brush, or a trowel, where an adhesive undergoes continuous load. SOLUTION: The water-based adhesive composition comprises (a) a chloroprene rubber latex obtained by polymerization in the presence of an anionic surfactant, (b) a polymer emulsion, (c) a water-soluble polymer, and (d) a weakly acidic substance for adjusting a pH to 7-9 and has a viscosity of 500-10,000 mPa s as measured at 23°C with a BM viscometer of 12 rpm.
