PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the arrangement of elevator components for vertical movement of a plurality of elevator cars in a shaft. SOLUTION: The elevator comprises at least two elevator cars (7a, 7b) which are disposed one above the other and vertically movable in a shaft independently of one another. Each car has an associated drive (A1, A2) with at least one motor and at least one drive pulley (1a, 1b), an associated counterweight (12a, 12b), and at least one associated tension device (Z1, Z2). The drive (A1) is fixed to a first shaft wall and the other drive (A2) is fixed to an opposite second shaft wall. The drives (A1, A2) can be passed by the elevator cars (7a, 7b), wherein the drives (A1, A2) are arranged vertically above the associated drive pulleys (1a, 1b). COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
