PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head gimbal assembly in which a head slider and a suspension are connected with each other by an improved connection system; and to provide a disk drive unit including the improved head gimbal assembly and the manufacturing method of the head gimbal assembly. SOLUTION: The connection system is achieved by turning a surface on the opposite side of an air bearing surface of the head slider to a connection surface. Thus, the connection surface provides a more sufficient space for installing many slider electric connection pads. The head slider is mechanically and electrically connected with the suspension on the connection surface and has an excellent collision resistance performance. The suspension includes an attitude control layer disposed between the head slider and a flexure as well. By the attitude control layer, the excellent attitude of the head slider is secured, the change of the floating height of the slider is reduced, and the recording and reproducing performance of data of the head slider is improved.
