PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in current consumption and temperature even if a servo gain is increased due to a read error during reproduction of an optical disk. SOLUTION: When readout from the optical disk 12 is impossible in reproducing the optical disk 12, the servo gain is increased for retry. When the readout is achieved by the increased servo gain, the gain is returned to the normal servo gain by lowering it for the time as long as the servo gain is increased. When the amount of information stored in a memory 8 with the increased servo gain drops to below an intermediate value B, the unread address is retried by lowering the servo gain. When it is read by lowering the servo gain, the servo gain is returned to the normal servo gain after reducing the servo gain for the time as long as the servo gain is increased. When the amount of information stored in the memory 8 with the lowered servo gain drops to below a lower limit value C, the servo gain is returned to the original servo gain after the time to lower the servo gain exceeds the time to increased the servo gain.
