PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating the amount of sodium adsorbed by an ion exchange resin in a condensate demineralizer, which can estimate the amount of sodium adsorbed by an ion exchange resin without the need to directly sample the ion exchange resin in the condensate demineralizer and carry out regeneration treatment of the condensate demineralizer at proper timing, and to provide a method for operating the condensate demineralizer. SOLUTION: The method for operating a condensate demineralizer 5 comprises the first step of estimating sodium adsorbed amount N from the measured value of chlorine ion concentration Y in condensate when sea water leakage has occurred in a condenser 4 (S101 to S104), and a second step of carrying out regeneration treatment of a condensate demineralizer 5 based on sodium adsorbed amount N estimated in the first step (S201).
