PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable reluctance type resolver capable of obtaining high resolution without reducing a tooth width of a rotor. SOLUTION: This resolver 10 is a variable reluctance type resolver, and each stator pole 32 is wound with a plurality of coils C31-C36 for outputting two detection signals different in frequencies in every phase, and the number n<SB>sp</SB>of the stator poles 32 and the tooth number n<SB>rt</SB>of rotors 20 are set therein to satisfy either of Expression (1) or (2). A secondary higher-harmonic component extracting circuit is provided further to extract a secondary higher-harmonic component from the both detection signals in every phase. n<SB>sp</SB>=n<SB>rt</SB>/äM+1/2N}, n<SB>sp</SB>=n<SB>rt</SB>/äM+(2N-1)/2N}, where n<SB>sp</SB>is a multiple of N and an even number, and M is 0 or an integer of 1 or more.
