RESISTANCE VARIABLE ELEMENT AND RESISTANCE VARIABLE STORAGE DEVICE

A resistance variable element and a resistance variable storage device using such resistance variable element are provided with a first electrode; a second electrode; and a resistance variable layer (3), which is arranged between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4) and is electrically connected with the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4). The resistance variable layer (3) includes a material, which is expressed by a chemical formula of (Zn_XFe_1-X)Fe₂O₄ and has a spinel structure. The resistance variable element (10) and the resistance variable storage device using the resistance variable element have such characteristics that the electrical resistance between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4) increases when a first voltage pulse is applied between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4) and that the electrical resistance between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4) lowers when a second voltage pulse having the same polarity as that of the first voltage pulse is applied between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode (4).
