A hinge device having a damping function that can be easily enabled and disabled. A movable cam (9) and a shaft body (7) are received in a tube body (6). The movable cam (9) is received in the tube body (6) so as to be slidable in the direction of the axis of the tube body (6) but not rotatable. The shaft body (7) is received in the tube body (6) so as to be rotatable about the axis of the tube body (6) but not slidable in the direction of the axis. A cam section (9c) of the movable cam (9) and a contact section (11) of the shaft body (7) face each other, and a sliding motion of the movable cam (9) and a rotation motion of the shaft body (7) are associated with each other. A through-hole (9b) extending in the direction of the axis of the tube body (6) is formed in the movable cam (9), and a shaft section (7b) penetrating through the through-hole (9b) of the movable cam (9) is provided on the shaft body (7). First and second chambers (S1, S2) inside the tube body (6) partitioned by the movable cam (9) are filled with a viscous fluid (20). Between the shaft section (7b) of the shaft body (7) and the movable cam (9) is provided a fluid passage (P) for leading the viscous fluid (20) from either of the first and second chambers (S1, S2) to the other.
