<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus rendered versatile so as to cope with, without increasing the number of signal lines, a situation in which even if the configuration of an image formation system needs to be altered as a result from reducing excessive output lines from the apparatus and consequently adding or removing a detecting means or actuator. <P>SOLUTION: The binary signals of a plurality of detecting means are input to a detection identifying control means 10. The detection identifying control means 10 receives the inputs of a detecting means identifying signals 12 and a detecting means period signal 13 from an image formation control means 18 for controlling the engine of the image forming apparatus and others relating to the engine. The detection results of the plurality of detecting means are input to a control board 18 from the detection identifying means 10 as detection data 11.
