The present invention is related to communication systems over mobile or the Internet. More specifically, the invention is related to the group communication systems like POC or IMS on the Internet or mobile systems. The POC or IMS use SIP technology to accomplish communication between users. The current invention provides method to facilitate the management of user sessions. A user can initiate merge operation for two distinct groups. The user has to just select the groups to be merged. Then, merge initiator signal is sent to controlling function. The controlling function then sends invites to other users in the group. All the interested users are then merged together. Similarly, the user can initiate division of group. In this case, division initiator signal is sent to the controlling function. The controlling function invites the concerned users regarding the division. The interested users are divided into two groups.
