PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat assisted magnetic head capable of improving reliability, an HGA (head gimbal assembly) provided with the heat assisted magnetic head, and a hard disk drive provided with the HGA. SOLUTION: The recording region R of a magnetic recording medium is heated by near-field light having a high resolution, and write is performed by an electromagnetic coil element 34 thereafter. A plasmon probe 36 which generates the near-field light is parallel with a side face 352a adjacent to the light emission surface 353 of a core 35. Light made incident from the light incidence surface 354 of the core 35 is deflected by a reflection mirror 35m and led to the distal end of the plasmon probe 36. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
