PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crash-proof projection side unit, and to provide a projector with the projection side unit. SOLUTION: The projector is provided with an optical unit including a projection side block, and the projection side unit 130 disposed in the projection side block includes: sliding support shafts 134 disposed parallel to an optical axis; a movable lens barrel 131 with a movable lens group 97 disposed therein, and sliding on the sliding support shafts 134 in the optical axis direction while connecting to the sliding support shafts 134 through arms 142 and 143 projecting from the outer peripheral edge thereof; a fixed barrel 132 with a fixed lens group 93 disposed therein; and a holding member 135 and a holding plate 136 having support shaft holding holes 152 and 158 for holding the end parts of the sliding support shaft 134, each having outside diameter larger than that of the sliding support shaft 134, located in horizontally symmetrical positions near the both end parts. The end parts of the sliding support shaft 134 are inserted into the support shaft holding holes 152 and 158, and the sliding support shaft 134 is held while being brought in press contact with the inner walls of the support shaft holding holes by a pressurizing member disposed in a cavity between the peripheral edge of the end part of the sliding support shaft 134 and the inner wall of each of the support shaft holding holes 152 and 158.
