PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform fuel cut control at the time of deceleration corresponding to a control mode selected from among a plurality of control modes by a driver in an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: At the time of deceleration, the engine ECU40 determines that it is at an economy mode in which fuel consumption is reduced (S100) when an economy switch 50 is turned on, and makes a gradually-changing period T set up to be a period T2 shorter than that of a normal mode (S120). Thus, fuel consumed during the gradually-changing period T is reduced. When the economy mode is selected, the fuel cut control is carried out so as to reduce fuel consumption suitable for the economy mode. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
