PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing silver nanoparticles having a uniform particle diameter. SOLUTION: The method for producing the silver nanoparticles includes reducing silver ions with formalin under the presence of ethylenediamine tetraacetate and polyethyleneimine. Furthermore, it is preferable to make polyvinylpyrrolidone coexist in the reaction liquid. It is also preferable to add a hydrophobizing agent to the slurry in which the silver ions have been reduced. It is also preferable to add a solid, a water-soluble salt or an ion of a metal having an ionization tendency larger than that of silver such as copper and nickel to the slurry in which the silver ions have been reduced.
