发明名称 METHOD FOR JOINING METALLIC MATERIAL
摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining a metallic material capable of performing the excellent friction stir welding even when joining materials having the high hardness and the high melting point with each other. SOLUTION: Ends of plate-like metallic materials 1, 2 are butted to each other at a joining part 3, a back side of the joining part 3 is covered by a plate-like backing material 4, and a probe 6 of a rotary tool 5 is inserted from a surface side of the joining part 3 to join the metallic materials 1, 2. The backing material 4 consists of Si<SB>3</SB>N<SB>4</SB>, and the metallic materials 1, 2 are plates having the thickness of≤13 mm and containing Fe. Since the backing material 4 consisting of Si<SB>3</SB>N<SB>4</SB>having low heat conductivity is applied, the heat from the rotary tool 5 is hardly dissipated from the joining part 3, the heat distribution from the surface side to the back surface side of the joining part 3 becomes uniform, the more consistent joining is obtained, and the joining strength is enhanced. Further, the backing material 4 consisting of Si<SB>3</SB>N<SB>4</SB>having excellent strength at the joining temperature is applied, and the strength of the backing material 4 never be insufficient.
