PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave element capable of sufficiently reducing deformation of a frequency characteristic due to lateral mode spuriousness. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave element has a reflecting member 7 on a piezoelectric substrate 2, where the reflecting member 7 has a reflecting surface 7a reflecting at least a lateral mode component of a surface acoustic wave to a direction different from the direction of a surface wave driven electrode 3 and the reflecting surface 7a is a plane and provided at a prescribed angleα(α=10 to 40°) to a propagation direction of the surface acoustic wave (the length direction of the piezoelectric substrate 2) in plane view. The reflecting surface 7a can, therefore, reflect and disperse the lateral mode component to the different direction from the surface wave driven electrode 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
