PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit capable of improving the detection precision of copy prohibition information buried in a print original. SOLUTION: A pattern detection section 466 detects slash patterns 0, 1 included in an image subjected to binarization processing and noise elimination processing to generate a detected result image. A blocking section 468 divides the detected result image into a plurality of weighted partial image regions (blocks). A block judgement section 476 judges whether a block is in a background image region (prohibition codes 0, 1) based on an embodiment, where the slash patterns 0, 1 are included in each of a plurality of blocks. A prohibition judgement section 478 judges whether information on image processing restriction is included in a read image, based on a weight set to a block judged as the background image region by the block judgement section 476.
