PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a short circuit current without increasing a chip area. SOLUTION: A short circuit detecting circuit is provided with: active elements; a plurality of element signal lines in which the active elements are connected and arrayed in one direction; a row selecting circuit for decoding element signal line selecting information and optionally selecting a first control line from a first control lines group corresponding to the element signal lines; mode setting circuits in which the control signal supplied from the first control line and a mode setting signal are supplied and a second control line is optionally selected from the second control lines group corresponding to the first control lines group and also the potential level of the second control line is set; and a driver circuit in which a third control signal is supplied from the mode setting circuit and the plurality of element signal lines are set to potentials different from each other for generating the short circuit current between the adjacent element signal lines, then the short circuit current of the adjacent element signal lines is detected.
