Provided is a printing system which can obtain a document having a background pattern by a cheap method which can output data to a medium such as a normal medium without depending on the type of an application or a printer, output print data specified to be printed to an output printer, and perform printing based on the print data onto a medium by the output printer. The printing system includes a virtual printer for combining the print data and the background pattern data. The virtual printer includes: generation means for generating spool data from a print job from the application as the print data specified to be printed; background pattern creation means for creating the background pattern; creation means for combining the spool data generated by the generation means and the background pattern data created by the background pattern creation means so as to create the print data having the background pattern; and output means for outputting the print data having the background pattern created by the creation means to the output printer.
