The roof (12) has a mobile roof unit (16), which is coupled with a carriage in a longitudinal centre plane of a motor vehicle (10). The carriage is movable in a vehicle longitudinal direction over sliding units that are guided in a guiding rail. Each sliding unit is formed of sliding guides that are arranged one after the other in a rail longitudinal direction. The sliding guides are displaced against each other for attachment to a lower and/or upper sliding surface of a guiding channel of the guiding rail in a vertical direction.
