An underwater power generation system that has a line member 30 that moves along a defined pathway. A number of foils 40 drive the line member using the flow of water current. The defined pathway lies in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the flow of water current. A power take-off 114, 124 is connected to the line to produce power.
