Cyanoimino- or nitroimino-substituted azole derivatives (or furan, thiophene or cyclopentene analogs) (I) are new. Azole derivatives or analogs of formula (I) are new. A = aryl, heteroaryl or heterocyclyl (all optionally substituted); X = CH or N; Y = CN or NO2; Z1 = CH2, O, S, SO, SO2 or NR5; R1 - R5 = H or 1-3C alkyl.
