Inactivated influenza virus suspensions are prepared by culturing the one or more strains of influenza virus in the allantoic cavity of an embryonated chicken egg, purifying the virus by differential centrifugation and inactivating it by treatment with diethyl ether or ethyl acetate at 0‹ to 5‹C. The purified and inactivated virus may be incorporated into vaccine preparations for administration to animals and humans by the oral, parenteral, rectal or nasal route including emulsified suspensions in animal or vegetable oils.</p> |
