A clamp for clamping a pipe end portion to a nipple or to another pipe end portion, comprises one or more lengths of strip material formed into a ring of substantially circular form with the end portions of said length or lengths of strip material overlapping, means for joining said overlapping end portions of strip material and a plurality of resilient loops 2 spaced circumferentially around said ring and having their axes parallel to the axis of said ring, said resilient loops being formed in said strip material and/or in the means for joining the overlapping end portions of said strip material. In one construction, Fig. 1, the clamp consists of a single length of the strip material and its end portions are held together by tongues 4 bent up from one end portion and engaging slots 5 in the other end portion and there are a plurality of the loops 2 the material being spring steel. In a modification the clamp is made of a material which has zones which are highly resilient and in which the loops 2 are formed and zones which are deformable and the deformable zones have open bulges which can be deformed by means of pliers to tension the clamp around an article, the loops 2 providing pressure in use. The end portions of this clip are held together by tongues and slots as previously described. In another modification instead of the end portions having tongues and slots a bridge piece is provided which has tongues which engage slots in both end portions; in one form the tongues all point in the same direction and in another form the tongues of one end portion point in one direction and the tongues of the other end portion in the opposite direction. The bridge piece either has a resilient loop 2 or a deformable bulge. A construction is also described in which the end portions are held together by a toggle clasp. A modification is described in which the clamp has a number of lengths of strip material, the strip material being slotted and one pair of end portions being held together by a toggle clasp the others by bridge pieces each of which has a resilient loop 2. The resilient loops can each have a reinforcing rib. |
