[Also in Division B5] A method of permanently cladding an inorganic material, the surface of which has been primed with an organic material prime, chemically bonded to the surface of the inorganic material and which contains groups which are activatable by ultraviolet light of a wavelength of from 2,000 to 3,600 A, with a cladding layer of a thermoplastic polymer material which consists essentially of one or more polymers of carbon and hydrogen, carbon and one or more halogens of which at least some of the halogen atoms are other than fluorine atoms, or carbon, hydrogen and halogen, comprises irradiating at least the interface of a laminate of the inorganic material and the cladding layer with ultraviolet light having a wavelength of from 2,000 to 3,600 Š at a temperature of from 100 to 200‹, while maintaining intimate contact at the interface between the cladding layer and the primed surface for a time sufficent to ensure bonding. Specified inorganic materials are of metal e.g. iron, steel, aluminium, copper, brass, bronze and silver, glass and mica sheet. Specified primers are stearic, oleic, benzoic, caproic, acetic, cinnamic and! phthalic acid,α-mercapto-stearic acid, octadecyl mercaptan, benzl mercaptan, acetophenoxime, benzophenoxime and octadecyl phosphenate, which may be applied by dipping or calendering. Specified thermoplastic polymers which may be applied in the form of a film, cast from solution, or by dip coating the inorganic material in a melt thereof or by extrusion are polyethylene, polypropylene, polychloro trifluorethylene, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl fluoride:. When the inorganic material is mica, excess mica may be removed from the laminates. The .thermoplastic polymer layers of the laminate may be laminated to wood, ceramic material or concrete.</p>
