HAND-OFF METHOD AND SYSTEM BETWEEN HETEROGENEOUS NETWORKS

A handoff method between different networks and a system thereof are provided to reduce a handoff time while preventing service interruption during the handoff process. A dual AT(Access Terminal) receives a neighbor list including a pilot PN(Pseudo-Noise) from a BS(Base Station)-WiMax(Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access)(203) and transmits a handoff request message including the pilot PN to the BS-WiMax(205). When the handoff request message is transmitted from the BS-WiMax to an ASN(Access Service Network)-WiMax(207), a session negotiation process is performed between the terminal and the ASN-WiMax(209). The ASN-WiMax obtains a PDSN(Packet Data Service Node)-A address from the pilot PN(211) and transmits a handoff request to the PDSN-A by using the PDSN address(213). When the BS-WiMAX transmits a response with respect to the handoff to the dual AT(245), the dual AT transmits an indication via a handoff indication message to the BS-WiMax(247).
