PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional material which can impart functionality to a desired portion of a front surface of a building material at a low cost, and can continuously exert the functionality over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The functional material 10 is obtained by performing surface treatment on the building material 11. Specifically a plurality of micropores 11b are formed in the front surface 11a of the building material 11 by a micropore forming means 21, and a functional agent-containing solution 12a is injected into the micropores by an ink-jet coating injector 25.
